I was very excited about this temple becos devotees can purchase fire crackers! YES Fire Crackers and light them up at the designated place, but... that day was BUDDHIST day and hence fire cracker is prohibited... sigh...

Anyway, we still pray there and purchase 2 wooden elephant for worshipping of Brahma. The view there was beautiful.

Luangta Maha Bua passes away

Highly revered monk Luangta Maha Bua Yanasampanno passed away early Sunday. He was 98 years old.
His followers at Wat Pa Ban Tad in Udon Thani said the abbot of the temple died at 3:53 am.
Luangta Maha Bua was born Bua Lohitdee on August 12, 1913 in Ban Tad, Udon Thani's Mak Khaeng district to a well-to-do farming family and had 15 siblings. At the age of 20, he was ordained as a monk on May 12, 1934, at Wat Yothanimit, according to the Thai tradition for his parents' merit.
Luangta Maha Bua, who was a student of much-respected Luangpu Man Phurithatto, is renowned for leading many fund-raising events for charitable causes and helping to restore the country's national reserves after they were depleted in the "Tom Yam Gung" financial crisis in 1997-98.

Went to Hat Yai because of the stainless steel temple. It's really worth going! Not only that, we went to the 4faced buddha and Kwan Yin at the hill top too!

Came to know about this temple few month ago thru M'sia paper. A little curious but it just simply slip my mind. Then yesterday when i met up with this aunty from M'sia, she brought up the topic. She went there in early december and came back FRESH! Yes, according to her the "energy" there was strong and it really freshened her thoughts and also it helps alot in her meditation, very spritual and unexplainable! So she ask me to arrange a trip there with her. Very nice temple, especially at night.
According to the chinese paper, a very staunch buddhist couple , mediating one day and "saw" Buddha! Buddha said to him " Would you give up your piece of land and build a 3 storey high Chedi for all people to come and pray?" He committed to Buddha and begin to get plans draw up but the money needed was far more than he can afford. One day there is this old lady who came to him and offer a donation for him to build the temple. Guess all these are Buddha's will bring 2 strangers together to start the project. In 5th December 2005 they invited top monks from thailand for the ground breaking ceremony.

The 90% Stainless Steel built Pahama Hatat Jidee Thai Po Tham Mon Koon temple was completed in February 2006 ( total of 160days) cost approximately S$1m.

A Thai monk walks 20 kilometres on barefoot a day to remind those who pursue a material life to protect and concern about mother nature.

Master Jinshen started his journey from Hat Yat and arrived at Simpang on Sunday (31 Jan). After staying in Simpang for a night, he started to walk again the next day. He was heading to Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.
He stressed that his main purpose is to practice Buddhist rules and at the same time, lead the people to the path of virtue. It is also meant to develop the Buddhist spirit.
When he was staying in Simpang, he urged everyone to concern about and appreciate mother nature. Also, he promoted an environmental friendly and simple lifestyle of eating and consuming less but to walk more.
He said that he had visited many countries, including Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and India over the past 30 years. And he walked more than 10 thousand kilometres every year.
"Not many monks live an ascetic life nowadays. That's why everyone looks at me with curiosity as they think ascetic monks can only be found in books," he said.
He also said that he walks five to six hours for more than 10 kilometres everyday. He has no money but a lot of people give him alms. Although his soles are blistered and painful, he feels happy.
"Some people work hard everyday to earn money in order to pursue a material life. They destroy natural resources but they are not truly happy."
He said that it is applies to human relationships, too.
"As long as you treat others friendly and reduce hatred, you'll get a peaceful mind in return," he added.
He also advised people to be vegetarians for health purposes and to reduce killing lives.

I like Buddha Statues, but would never BUY them and use them for decorative purpose. I've seen lots of little fountain in shop using Buddha head and honestly am not very comfortable with it. I always believe that Buddha is for us to pray and hold high respect and for using it as a ornament.

I was admitted to the hospital for a surgery. As it was my first time in the hospital, i took along the tanga i alwaya wear with me. since no necklace or jewellery were allow, i took a clip and clip it on my shirt. But since this is not my usual practice, i actually forgotten about it after my shower, only after 3 hours then i suddenly realised that my tanga is missing.

I was panic, really panic and quickly inform the nurses in the ward, i guess my face had clearly shown that i'm worried that it will be lost. But at the same time i know it's gonna be very difficult for them to trace back because the cleaner had clear away the basket 3 hours ago and the hospital is hugh, there will be piles and piles of dirty laundry waiting to be collected by the laundry company.. lots of what if come into my mind.. what if they can't find the bag since there is no label outside the plastic, what if the bag was transported out of the hospital etc.. I started to pray in my heart to Rahu, i pray that he will let me have my tanga back, please blessed that i can get i back, it's very important to me. I start to talk to Luang Pu Hong, I pray that let me have the tanga back and i will never let it leave me. I started chanting and chanting. Phew... after about an hour, as time passed, my panic didn't go off.. and suddenly, i saw the staff nurse walk in, with a tissue in her hand, carefully cleaning something and she came to me with a big smile, that moment i know, my prayers are heard, no wonder Luang Pu Hong always said, if you need me, chant and i'll be with you.

Thank you so much to Rahu, to Luang Pu Hong as well as the 3 nurses who help me digging in bags and bags of dirty laundry. Actually i plan to go to the temple last night, but as i'm still having difficulties in walking, guess i can only do so next week. But as i say, They heard my prayers, they will forgive me for not going down last night. I'll be there next week.

Because of my health, i was introduced to this master by my colleague to check out what is going on, of course, i did went for proper medical advice and partly because i wanted to change my job, so I thought why not!

Was Amazed because all i gave him was my name and date of birth and he told me not to say anything before he ask me too. When he wants me to answer him then i open my mouth. I was like " Huh"... OK... Then he started to tell me from the day i was born and so on.... I WAS AMAZED & that moment i thought, yes, i've found the right person! Although some of the thing he said was my parent passed away when i was quite young,(pretty sad) but it's True & this colleague of mine was not aware! Then he said i had a bad fall before, causing problem with my spine.. True True True..and then he said of my three fingers, either hand, there is a cut.. True enough and i would say the cut was pretty minor, you have to bring my hand closely before you actually can see it, which he didn't. At this moment, I would say I'm really impressed. Especially the falling part. Then he told me what is wrong with my health... BINGO!

And he follow by a massage session! yes! he took a mirror, a ruler and he start measuring my face and found that both side are different by 1/2 inches and he started to ask me to stretch out my hand, he start pressing some point, which was pretty painful i would say. Then after that we measure again.. Hmmm the difference is GONE! All the people around me was amazed too.

Then he say i have problem on my back and shoulder, very tense and again, BINGO, he got me to stand up and he started to "stretch my body", it's like thai massage, and i really felt so "shiok" after that! Then he gave me some holy water to bring home.

The whole session was great, we just have to admit this is worth a visit and I'm happy that i got some of the doubts cleared.

看到这张照片你们有何感想？不是要你们看那盒五颜六色的糖果有多美丽，是把焦点集中在两个孩子的身上。看一看他们的头上/背上背了什么？不是洋娃娃，是一根根的树枝，大的不说，看看那个不到3岁孩子的身上然后再看看你们身边可爱的孩子们，你们有何感想？是不是像我一样很心酸，为什么我们家的孩子那么幸福，要什么就有什么，而远在泰国，缅甸，金三角那里的孩子却是那么的可怜？如果我们每个人都愿意对他们伸出援手，帮助他们，那么是不是就能改变他们的一生？当你们把不要的衣服，不要的玩具都丢进垃圾桶时，想想看，贫穷人家如果收到了这些可以让他们穿，可以保暖，完整无损的衣服时那种开心满足是金钱所买不到的。穷人家的孩子，没有玩具这种奢侈品，他们小小年纪，不要说是玩具，连套像样的衣服和鞋子都没有，身上永远是脏兮兮的，脚板被磨破了皮也不能喊痛，没有鞋子就算是哭也没有用。当我们在烦恼该买什么颜色的鞋子时，想象有多少人是光着脚顶着大太阳在山上行走的。他们要的不是什么名牌服装鞋子，要的只是可以遮体的衣服，可以行走的鞋子。

不要老是把泰国的印象停留在购物天堂，下一次当你们计划要去泰国是不妨多带一公斤的物品去捐给又需要的人！如果那些想要帮助却不能亲自到那里的人也可以花点钱把想捐的物品集合起来用邮寄的方式寄去给那里的组织，他们一年会到那些偏远的地区几次，把物资送给村民们。

If all of us play a part in helping and contribute for the less fortunate, the world will be happier because there are lesser people suffering.
The people from the Hilltribe need helps, many of the villager had never seen any stranger before, let alone knowing there is such thing call " photo". They do not have enough water in their village for personal use and cooking or have toilet facilities available in the village. Children in rural areas of northern Thailand started to help out in the family when they are supposed to be in school, part of the reason, there were no proper school build for them. They have no sense of hygiene, they have no proper medical help and that's why they needed people to stretch out and help them. Providing them with basic care in the way of food, housing and education for hill tribe orphans or children from broken hill tribe homes.

Due to the Red Shirt protest in Bangkok. we decided to change our plan of staying 2 nights in Bangkok. Hence from Chiangmai, we took the plane back to Bangkok, but since our flight is 9pm hence we decided to go to the temple which we always wanted to visit~~~Wat Sothon (for details of the temple, pls follow this link to my previous post~~

Arrived at BBK airport around 1.30pm. I went to the tourist information counter and ask them if i can make ip back to the airport before 7pm. The nice lady say no problem and wrote for me the name of temple in thai so that i can show it to the taxi driver. No time to waste, i get to the taxi stand and show it to the lady and she arrange for me a taxi who is willing to bring me there, returned trip at 1500b.On the way to Chachoengsao we passed by several checks stand guarded by the army and we can sense the tension around.

The whole journey is about 1hour, and we were amazed how beautiful the temple can be! It may be the oldest temple in Chachoengsao, it's simply gorgeous! The Luang Pho Sothon is Enshrined inside the new gigantic hall and the whole place is crowded by many devotees from all over Thailand

Lunch With Monks

Half way during the visit to temples, we stop by to have lunch. I would say S'poreans are pretty pampered, as we are on the way looking for a restaurant, the driver stop by aside of a house which was pretty run down. We were expecting at least a decent "restaurant" or maybe a coffee shop, yet the monk told us this is the place we will be having our lunch! Hahaha, we were expecting somewhere with Air-con, Chiang Mai in April, no joke, at least 40 degree celcius! Anyway, we are strangers there, so we just follow suit.
As it's all in Thai, there is nothing i can help, so we told the monk to just place order of whatever they want to eat and at the same time, order our food too. I would say, the food is CHEAP & GOOD! Really yummy. We spent less than S$20/- for all our dishes ( 4dishes with soup, rice and drinks! mind you, for 7 of us!) And it's the BEST meal we had throughout our 4days in Chiangmai!

Making Merit @ Chiangmai~~Wat Chai Mongkol

This temple is about 8minutes walk from Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel

I've heard of this temple but it wasn't in the list that Kruba gave me. To our surprise, it's only 8min walk from the hotel we stayed. Guess it's all fated. We missed the monk along the roadside, hence a nice lady brought us to the temple.

Knowing that we have never make merit to monks in the morning,
this sweet lady offer to bring us to the market @5.45am to make purchase of food for the monk. She even taught us what to do after we place the food into the alm bowl (simple, just kneel down and the monk will do a chanting for us)

This must be the 8th monk we had offered. We had offered to few of them outside the market before we came over.

Wat Chaimongkol is one of the oldest community monasteries in chiangmai. It was founded around 600 years ago, as the power and influence of the Lanna kingdom was emerging at the time of strong King Tilokkaraj. Shrines and artefacts were added by the various ethinic groups using the temple - Burmese, Laos - note the imposing Chinese shrine with its goddess of mercy statue. the boat landng was the main Chiangmai arrival and departure point for visiting royalty and merchants of substance. the statue of Rama V, King Chulalongkorn, is a popular spot for Thai devotees.

This temple is located on the bank of Ping River. This temple was constructed during the reign of King Tilokkaratch. During the occupation of Chiang Mai by Burma this temple was called Wat Oop Pa Peng or Wat Oop Pa Pok. Later King RamaV changed the name to Wat Chia Mong Kol. The pagoda of this temple is built in Burmese style.

This 4.5m tall statue was cast in 1320and said to be the likeness of King Mengrai.

Wat Jao Mengrai was built in the city of Chiangmai shortly after Wat Chiang Mun was completed. When the big Buddha image was being carried through the city to the new temple site, the carriage broke and the image fell to the ground. Out of superstition, King Mengrai decided to build another temple on the spot.

He was really very excited trying very hard to talk to us despite the language barrier. Then this is when Pinum come into the picture, trying to be the interpreter.

Chiangmai Holy 9 Temple 9th Stop~~Wat Meun Larn Gong

This is very common is Chiang Mai Temple. You will see small chedi of sand placed in the temple compound. This is a symbolic return of the sand carried out on the soles of shoes and feet of the people, usually this is done during the Songkran Festival. The sand is made into a small chedi for the next day.

This is the "Money" temple which the old monk told me. I hope not only after praying we have money, of course also blessed us with good health and good luck!

Wat Muen Larnn Gong is located on San Larn Road. This temple was first constructed in the time of King Mengrai in local Lanna style. Many rich families in Chiang Mai sponsor this temple since its name. Muen Ngern Gong, means millionaire or riches.

Built in the period of King Kuena by Muen Ngern Kong (the Minister of Finance) circa 1339 - 1337, the site has an antique ordination hall made of wood.

Wat Duang Dee is located on Phra Pok Klao Road. In the past this temple was called Wat Ton Mak Nue. The wiharn is designed in Lanna style.

The name of this temple means 'Good Luck' in Thai.

Wat Duang Dee dates back over 200 years. In 1761 the Chiang Mai Chronicle reported that a Monk from Wat Duang Dee became ruler of Chiang Mai at a time when it held its Independence for a short time before the Burmese returned to govern.

In 1819, the second ruling Prince of Chiang Mai, King Thammalangka had the Wat renovated and held a dedication ceremony.

Within its scripture hall there are, by all accounts beautiful gilded wood carvings.This temple displays a mixture of architectural styles that reflect the varied heritage of Northern Thailand.

Chiangmai Holy 9 Temple 7th Stop~~Wat Chiang Yuen

Wat Chiang Yuen is located outside the city wall on Mani Nopharat Road. Wat Chiang Yuen is one of oldest temples in Chiang Mai where every King had to pay homage to the Buddha image called "Phra Suppunyu Chao" (located in the wiharn) in order to gain good fortune in life. Hence, it is believed that the words "Chiang Yeun" means "long life."

In the period of King Phra Muangkaew (A.D. 1495-1525) the Buddha relics were enshrined in the stupa. The temple was abandoned after the Burmese defeat. Later on it was rebuilt by Phraya Wachiraprakarn. The big white and golden stupa is the most striking feature of this temple. Tel. 053-211654.

One of the older monk who brought us there was telling us this temple mean"long life" and another temple was More money! Well, there is always lots of interesting stories behind each temple in Thailand. That's what made them so interesting!

Chiangmai Holy 9 Temple 6th Stop~~Wat Suan Dok

Just beyond the walls of the old city on the west side stands Wat Suan Dok, which dates back to the 14th century. Built by the King of Lanna on the grounds of his pleasure garden, this temple was originally intended to serve as a retreat for a revered monk from Sukothai.
This temple is a wonderful place for photography and has spectacular vistas of Doi Suthep at sunset. Wat Suan Dok also figures heavily in the legend of Doi Suthep's founding. A Buddha relic was to be housed in its central chedi when it broke in two. The other half was placed on the back of a white elephant, which climbed Doi Suthep and then died.
Doi Suthep was founded on the site of the elephant's demise. This temple is also noteworthy for being the final resting place of many of Chiang Mai's Lanna rulers. Behind the main hall of the temple is a city of small, whitewashed chedis which house the ashes of the kings of Lanna.

松达寺（Wat Suan Dok）位于市区素贴路，建于14世纪，周围是兰那泰王朝君王的御花园，国内有许多优美的白色宝塔，内藏清迈王族的骨灰。中央一座巍峨大佛塔里，据说仍保藏着佛祖遗骨。此寺造型简单，供奉一尊有500多年历史青铜打造的释迦牟尼佛像，是泰北最大金属佛像之一。

Wat Phra Singh is located within the city walls, dates from 1345 and offers an example of classic northern Thai style architecture. It houses the Phra Singh Buddha, a highly venerated figure brought here many years ago from Chiang Rai. Visitors can also take part in meditation classes here.

This venerable temple, located at the end of Ratchadamnoen Road, is perhaps the most venerated in Chiang Mai, behind Doi Suthep. While the dusty parking lot and hordes of taxi drivers may be discouraging at first, this temple is certainly worth a look.
Although the main hall of the temple dates back to 1512 and is quite beautiful, the real attraction of this temple is the smaller Lai Kam worship hall behind it. This small building is a wonderful example Lanna (northern) architecture, especially the signature roof design, which is meant to represent a bird's wings.

The interior artwork has recently been restored, allowing visitors an excellent view into the lives of Chiang Mai's people hundreds of years ago. Housed within the Lai Kam is the Phra Singh Buddha image, considered the most sacred of Chiang Mai's Buddhas, which was brought to Thailand from Sri Lanka in the 1300s.

Wat Chedi Luang was founded in 1401 and is dominated by a large Lanna style chedi which took many years to finish. An earthquake damaged the chedi in the 16th century and only two-thirds of it remain.

Built in 1391, during the reign of King Saen Muang Ma, 8th ruler of the Mengrai dynasty, Wat Chedi Luang's massive chedi (pagoda) is a distinctive feature of the Chiang Mai skyline. At its peak, the chedi measured 44 meters (144 feet) wide and 86 meters (282 feet) tall and was the home of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most sacred cultural treasure.
Damaged during an earthquake in 1545, the structure is still impressive with a naga (water serpent) staircase on each of its faces and wonderful statues of elephants adorning the base. Legend has it that if the gum tree just inside the entrance ever falls, a terrible disaster will occur. A special pulley system allows visitors to leave offerings and prayers atop the chedi. The temple is located on Phra Pokklao Road and is easy to find, since the chedi is one of the tallest buildings in the old city.

Chedi Chang Lom which is the oldest and most significant stupa in the temple compound. It is recorded that once King Mengrai, King Ngaam Muang from Payao and King Ruang of Sukothai had fully completed the construction of the new city and this temple then the chedi was erected upon the site of the original royal palace. Enshrined within the chedi is said to be a hair relic of the Lord Buddha. This is now referred to as ‘The Sacred Elephant Encircled Stupa’ for obvious reasons as it is supported by a veritable herd of these endearing animals. Atop the white chedi is a gold decorated top that is glistening in the sun against a clear blue sky this morning and looking a picture.

大佛塔寺（Wat Chedi Luang），创建于1411年，于清迈市内六大寺庙中最为著名，与帕辛寺（Wat Phra Singh）同为清迈地位最崇高的寺庙。寺内有一座宏大的四方形佛塔，始建于15世纪初，以后数次增建，高达85.4米，据说可远望千里。1545年，清迈发生一次大地震和大风灾，佛塔的尖顶一夜之间塌毁，露出塔内的金身佛像。寺内60米高的兰那风格佛塔建于1441年，毁于16世纪的一次地震，但依然是城内最宏伟的建筑。塔的南侧有6个象头雕像，其中5个都是后来用水泥修复的赝品，只有最右边用砖头砌成的是真品。可惜的是，经年的风吹日晒把鼻子和耳朵都吹走了。围绕着四方形佛塔走，在四方形佛塔的后面有两座殿堂。在每座殿堂中间的玻璃橱中端坐着身披迦裟的Chedi Luang寺高祖，目光炯炯，栩栩如生。寺有还尊佛像坐在玻璃大盒子里，开始我们都还以为是肉身舍利，不由得敬畏不已。后来问了寺内的工作人员才知道是蜡像。

Wat Chiang Man, the oldest temple in Chiang Mai, dates from the 13th century. King Mengrai lived here during the construction of the city. This temple houses two important and venerated Buddha figures, the marble Phra Sila and the crystal Phra Satang Man.

This is the oldest temple in the Chiang Mai, built in 1296 at the time of the city's founding. The temple served as the residence of Chiang Mai's founder, King Mengrai, for a time. The buildings are finely decorated in red lacquer, gold leaf and mosaics of tinted mirror, wonderful examples of Lanna style architecture. Wat Chiang Man is located on Ratchaphakhinai Road, near the Chang Puak gate in the northern part of the old city.

Temple with the 7 Spires

Wat Jet Yod (Chet Yot) On the superhighway north of the city you will find the unusual Wat Jet Yod, built in the 15th century to host the 8th World Buddhist Council. The name of the temple translates to temple of the seven spires, a reference to the very uncommon design of the temple's chedi.
Instead of the normal design, Wat Jet Yod's chedi has a square base topped by seven towers. The design is based on the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodhgaya, India, site of the Buddha's enlightenment. Today this temple doesn't see too many visitors but does feature some intriguing bas-reliefs.

柴尤寺（Wat Chet Yot）很像一个小公园的柴尤寺是提洛卡拉王(King Tilokara或Tilokaraja) 于西元1455年开始建造的，寺里最重要的就是一座头上顶着7个塔的大殿，这座塔的形式可能是抄袭缅甸蒲干(Pagan的)玛哈包地寺 (Mahabodhi) 与巴嘎亚(Bodhgaya) 印度寺庙的形式。柴尤寺中还有一株老菩提树，就在七峰塔的后方，被围着许多黄巾，据说是提洛卡拉王为了召开那次佛教大会，特别请高僧自锡兰释迦牟尼禅定的那株菩提树移来一枝，若是真的，至今以522年了。广大的草地与树荫，加上散落在其间的7尊各式佛像，好象一个佛像公园。草地上7尊各式姿势的佛像叙述了释迦牟尼禅定前身的一些姿势，别担心看不懂泰文，泰文看板的背面就是英文看板，解说佛像的姿势与释迦牟尼做此姿势的故事。

Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the city's most famous temple, stands on Doi Suthep, a hill to the north-west of the city.

This temple dates from 1383. By tradition, its site was chosen by placing a relic of the Lord Buddha on an elephant's back and letting it roam until it trumpeted, then circled and died. The temple's location provides superb views on a clear day.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is an impressive embodiment of the Lanna (northern Thai) culture and is a symbol deeply cherished by the people of Chiang Mai. The temple's origins date back almost seven hundred years, to 1382 and the legend surrounding the founding of the temple is one of those mysteries of Asia that draw so many visitors to this enchanted land.

Over three hundred steps lead from the parking area to the temple grounds, a staircase bordered by the longest naga (water serpent) balustrade in Thailand. Nagas are sacred water serpents which bring good luck as well as bridging the earth and sky.If the climb sounds like no fun, then simply ride to the top in one of the newly rebuilt cable cars (admission: 50 baht).
Once you've reached the top there's plenty to see at the temple. Of course, the golden Chedi dominates the area with its gilded, 24 meter (79 foot) tall bulk. Ceremonial parasols were added at the four corners of the Chedi in the 16th century and pilgrims make merit by sticking gold leaf to the parasol shafts. At the rear of the temple a long promenade provides a spectacular view; the city spreads out below, bisected by the ribbon of the Ping River.

Chiangmai! Finally~~ After so many years, dwelling so much to be here, I've step on this beautiful land. After checking into the hotel and had our lunch, we took the tuk tuk to Wat Don Chan.

I thought we are the only one who will be excited to see Kruba Anan, to my surprised, he remembered us. He knew that we are from Singapore and where we came from. We had a good chat ( thou chicken & duck talk) thru hand gesture and not so fluent english interpretation. Understand that he missed some of our friends like (To**, Ran**& Fran***, he really named them) and he was asking me why they are not coming to his temple? Well, i just told him they were too busy.. well, you know businessmen, not like us commoner... Anyway, you know who you are.

We were told by Archan there were 700+ boys/girls, 20 teachers and about 8 monks compared to 3years ago. Not only they have school for the younger kids, they are now building a U campus. The compound is bigger now and the kids are happier too.

PRINCE SIDDHATTHA’S BIRTH
Queen Mahamaya, a wife of King Suddhodana of Kapilavatthu gave birth to prince Siddhattha, the Buddha-to-be, at Lumbini Park, on the Vishahka’s Full Noon Day (the sixth lunar month), 80 years before the Buddhist Era (623B.C)

ON ROYAL PARK VISIT
Prince Siddhattha (the Buddha-to-be) came across the Four Sights on his trip outside the palace: (1) an old man, (2) a sick man, (3) a dead man and (4) a wandering monk, which made him weary of conditioned things. Upon seeing these four sights, he was inspired to go forth in the Great Renunciation

THE GREAT RENUNCIATION
Returning from the last visit and learning that Yasodhara, his wife had given birth to a son named Rahula, the Prince, the 29 years old Prince cut off his hair with a sword and began an ascetic life in search of spiritual freedom from suffering

THE PRACTICE OF AUSTERITIES
The Bodhisatta, first approached some ascetics to learn their theories and practices, but was dissatisfied with them. He, then, tried by himself to discover the best way to liberation by practicing several austerities such as fasting and self mortification by with the group of Five Companions in attendance nearby.

THE MIDDLE WAY
The Bodhistta, having undergone for six years these austerities, realized that self-mortification is not the right way to enlightenment. He, then, gave it up and started the practice of Mental Development known as “the Noble Eight fold Path” or the Middle Way.

THE ENLIGHTENMENT
The Bodhisatta at the age of 35 through the Middle Way attained Enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodhagaya, India, at the dawn of the Visakha’s Full Moon Day. Thereafter, he became known as the Buddha, the Enlightened One or the Awakened One.

PREACHING THE FIRST SERMON
After two months, the First Sermon was delivered to the group of Five Ascetics at Isipatana, The Deer Park Varanasi. The principles of the Sermon were based on the Four Noble Truths: Suffering, It’s Causes, its Cessation and the Path leading to Cassation of suffering. This is known as “ The Turning of the Wheel of truth”.

THE GREAT LEADER OF 1,000 ASCETICS
At Uruvela, there were three renowned religious teachers known as “Matted Hair Ascetics”. The elder was called Kassapa having a following of 1,000 ascetics. After hearing the Buddha’s teachings, they all joined the order. When the Buddha met King Bimbisara of Rajagaha, the king and his royal retinue doubted his teachings. To eliminate their doubts, Ven Uruvela Kassapa declared himself “ the follower of the Buddha”.

THE HEART TEACHING OF THE BUDDHA
On the Magha’s Full Moon Day, nine months after his Enlightenment, the Buddha gave his most significant teachings known as “ Ovadapatimokkha”, (the Principle Teachings) to 1,250 Holy Noble Monks who assembled themselves without a prior appointment at Veluvanaram, Rajagaha.

THE GREAT COUPLE DISCIPLES
Sariputta and Moggallana, the two beloved friends of Rajagaha, along with their 250 followers approached the Buddha and asked for ordination. Later on, they both became the most well known chief disciples of the Buddha in propagating his teachings.

THE ALLOWANCE OF BIKKHUNI SANGHA
The Buddha allowed and accepted Queen Maha Pajapati, his aunt and step-mother into the Order of Bukkhuni (Buddhist nuns) along with her 500 Royal women the opportunity to experience the highest wisdom in life

THE LAST DISCIPLE
On his death bed at Kusinara, the Buddha, as his last gift, ordained Subhadda, the Wanderer, who came seeking spiritual guidance. He was the last monk who was ordained by the Buddha.

PASSING AWAY
Having preached to his last disciple, Subhadda, the Buddha passed away into Parinirvana (perfect Extinction) on the Visakha’s Full Moon Night at Salavanodayana. The Malla’s Garden one year before the Buddhist Era(543 B.C) at the age of 80. Parinirvana (Parinibbana) means “Utter or Final Nirvana” the ‘Total Letting Go’ at the moment of death of a Fully enlightened Being ( a Buddha or Arahant).

I'm actually very much looking forward for this Chiangmai Trip as it's alway in my mind that I want to go to this beautiful place to visit Wat Don Chan and Wat doi Suthep.

Had been VERY sick lately... more than 2 weeks still no good.. pray hard that by next week i'll be fully recover so that i can enjoy myself at chiang mai visiting the 9 holy temple as well as the orphange.

For now... no more input for the time being as I need to rest.. and pray hard...

p.s Oh ya, btw I've had my reunion dinner with BIG BOSS last wednesday. Went to HQ, clean the place and prepare 8 items for HIM. Very emotional day cos not known when will be the next time to see HIM again... that place brought back lots of memories... Good or BAD...

佛開示即使是窮人也能給予的七種布施，值得我們身體力行！

有一人向佛陀訴苦：「我不管做什麼事都會失敗，這是為什麼？」
佛說：「因你從不布施！」
那人答說：「可我是一無所有的窮人！」
佛陀開示：「不對！即使你沒有財富，也可以給人七種布施！」
一為和顏施：對於別人給予和顏悅色的布施。
二為言施：向人說好話的布施，存好心做好事做好人說好話，並勉人切實力行。
三為心施：為對方設想的心，體貼眾生的心的布施。
四為眼施：用慈愛和氣的眼神看人。
五為身施：身體力行幫助別人。
六為座施：讓座給需要的人的布施。
七為察施：不用問對方就能察覺對方的心，並給予相對其所需的方便的布施。

如果你能身體力行此七項布施，生命也會跟著有所改變！

以上小故事雖然並不是真正佛陀親口宣說的，但是原則上符合佛法也是這篇開運法的真正重點百日施之後可以千日施或終生施每一個生活的細節用心都可以拿來佈施那麼運勢便不可能不好。

Dreamt of BIG BOSS last week, in the dream there's also Ron ( busy cooking), others, ray & myself, HQ don't look familiar anymore, some changes took place, can't really recall what's the changes, all i can see is it's no longer look like a temple anymore. BIG BOSS said " Come back for reunion dinner!" Ha, New year is over, why is it so that he is asking us to go back for dinner? Oh ya, I've realised I've not been there for a while, not even during chinese new year. So I went down last wednesday with some offerings, the door was locked, with only notice stating that they will be close till further notice. I can only stand outside the door and pray to him, telling him I'm back and i took all the offering home. Wondering if they will be opening this week, because it's also the 地主 Birthday, wished i can be there.

土地公

「灵界有一种很奇怪的现象，是人们先要求「灵来」的石头，本来没有灵的，是人先拜石头，石头才有灵，树木本来是没有灵的，是人先拜树木，树木才有灵气，而土地公也是一样，人先拜土地公，土地公才感召而来，庙有大小，有庄严有不庄严，然而感召的道理是一样的。一个完全不信的人，灵界的灵，因无感召，也不会主动去亲近他，反之，一个相信神灵的人，他的感应会愈来愈多，因为愈有感召，灵便会亲近的缘故。

灵界有高有低，有些灵力高，有些灵力低，土地公的灵力不高，所以侧身在不庄严的小庙，而石头、树木、山川、苗稼都是精灵之类，这些灵都不一定害人，有些也是帮助人的，像土地公就是一种助人的灵。

有人传说，土地公可以帮助人家发财，说大富人家的家门，总有好几位白胡子的老公公，日夜搬金银珠宝入门。你若尊敬土地公，土地公也会帮助你，总会让你的运气好些，无病无痛。多福多寿。

每个人都有每一个人的灵性，这灵性若和东方的土地公灵性相合，就拜东方的土地公，得帮助。

属鼠之人：宜拜东南方的土地公。

属牛之人：宜拜东南方的土地公。

属虎之人：宜拜正南方的土地公。

属兔之人：宜拜西南方的土地公。

属龙之人：宜拜西南方的土地公。

土地公虽是小神小灵，但确实能帮助人，尤其农历初二及农历六日祭拜更好现中秋节将来临感应特强若依生肖方向之土地公祈求甚为有益。

The White Tiger Deity

In the Chinese lunar calendar, there are 24 divisions to a solar year. The "Awakening of Insects Day" happen to be in the 2nd division following directly after the Spring season. Due to climatic changes from Winter to Spring, thereby awaken insects from their winter sleep. Therefore it is called "Awakening of Insects", Chinese people believes this is the time the "White Tiger" will open its ferocious mouth to feast after a long hibernation during Winter.

Believers will gather at a temple and pray to the Tiger deity with a set of joss paper, incense, candles and food. Offerings include lard, duck eggs, sesame seeds and green beans are also offered to get rid of vile persons gossips.. They will place a small piece of lard into the Tiger deity mouth as a symbolic ritual of appeasing the Tiger deity not to stir up any trouble which includes bloodshed caused by accidents, major surgery, and calamities.

The Tiger deity is a very powerful deity believes that it can confers protections to worshippers and also help them get rid of vile persons, which may be your friends, colleagues or even your subordinate. That may slander, backstab, and giving you a hard time, especially these climbing the corporate ladder this may affect your chance of getting promoted.

Usually a set of joss paper is prepared in advance for worshipping the Tiger deity.

Trying to fix up her door....

If anyone who has watched the mediacorp show 22/2 last monday " Life Transformer 2" 心情大动员" then you will know who is that " Ang Po Po". Just in case u didn't watch it. Ah ma is 80+ this years, she has a tumour on her face which was cancerous ( latest update when i visited her this morning she will go for her surgery soon, the doc will do it after some reviews, dates not fixed yet, but will sure remove it). She has 2 daughters & 1son ( elder daughter got kidney failure, 2 daughter not very intelligent, son got diabetes and can see one whole basket of medication on the floor). They live without light for 15years( thanks to her daughter, set fire on the light, no$ to fix so rely on the lights from corridor, even it's fixed now, she told me "don't want to use lah, heart pain the bills, can use the light from outside to read). Despite all these she is really one who never gives up. She has this antique dictionary which she uses it when she can't understand the words, Thumbs up! Ah ma).

The show feature that when one of the host found a packet of rocks liked rice in the fridge, she ask her permission to throw away and that's when ah ma say " Don't throw, i've kept it for ONE YEARS already, can still eat. just soak in water then can cook and eat, i've taken alot already" this is how ah ma survive all these years... she will "stew" one whole pot of veggie using the chicken from neighbour and eat it for 2 months". It's been years since she last had fish and when ask if she is craving for fish her replies " no no no, i don't want to think about it. It's sad when i think and can't have it, then i'll die with regrets, i don't want to have regrets in life when i'm gone".

This is a really touching series and it's real, not just a SHOW. It really shows us there are alot of unfortunate families who needs help in Singapore, ok let's not talk about why govtment is not helping blah.... As a singaporean and as a human being, when we see people out there suffered, all we wants is to help as much as we can, even if it's only minimal we can do, but at least we help. We all have everything, but we still complains. We alway said people from other country so poor thing, needs help, come on, we fellow s'porean needs help too, don't just bring money out of Singapore, use it in a better way to help fellow countrymen!
做人真的要知足，也要懂得把心放开，那样在大的困难与挫折都不会把我们打倒！母爱的伟大让这位老婆婆到了一把年纪了还要替孩子们操心，心里面永远最放不下他们，再大的痛苦，身体的痛楚都阻止不了她想要照顾他们的心。原本应该是让孩子照顾的时候却没有享福过，问她可曾后悔，她说这是命。。。。我说。。。这是母爱。。。这是人性。。

Luang Pu Toh, Wat Pradoochimpee was one of the famous Thai monk in Thailand Temple and came from the local Bangkontee district of Samutsongkram province.

Pra Raht Sangwalahpimon also known as Luang Phor Toh ItatSuwannon (official name as Chao Khun Prarachsangwara Bhimonda) born in Bahn Klorng Nahng Noi, Jangwat Samutsongkrahm on 27 March BE2430 (1887) from the family of Loy & Tub Ruttanakon. At the age of 13, his parents passed away and taken care by a relative at Wat Pradoochimplee.

As a young boy, Luang Pu Toh became a novice monk under Luang Poo Suek at Wat Pradoochimplee . During that period, Pra Atitgahnkum was the abbot of Wat Pradoochimplee. Luang Poo Tog studied dhamma under Pra Ah Jahn Prom .

When he reached the age of 20, Luang Pu Toh was ordained as a monk on 16th July BE2450 by Praku Sammanatamsamahtahn (Luang Poo Saeng) from Wat Paknam. Prakru Tammawirat (Chei) Wat Gumpaeng were the receptors. After Pra Ah Jahn Prom passed away, Luang Pu Toh went to study dhamma under Luang Por Rong Wat Tahgrabeua at Samusahkon Province.

Sometime later, he went Tudong to many forested places in Northern Thailand, spending many rain retreats there. Luang Pu Toh was a dedicated respectable monk who was highly respected by the local people.
Luang Pu Toh returned to Bangkok and became the abbot of Wat pradoochimplee. He got to know Luang Por Sod, Wat Paknam and they became close friends. Sometime later, Luang Por Sod accompanied Luang Pu Toh to learn under the very famous Pra Ah Jahn Nohng at SuphanBuri Province. After studying under Ah Jahn Nohng for many years, Luang Pu Toh returned to Bangkok.

LP Toh was very popular and highly respected in Bangkok. Whenever there were any ceremony such chanting of amulets, celebration, fund raising etc, Luang Poo Toh would always be invited, because when people heard about Luang Poo Toh's name, they would come to support the ceremony.

LP Toh took over the position of the Temple from LP Kum at the age of 26 where he became the abbot.

He passed away on 5th April BE2524 at the age of 93 years old.

九曜星宿

一直以来我知道什么是太阳(Sun)，月亮(Moon)，金星(Venus)木星(Jupiter)水星(Mercury)火星(Mars)土星(Saturn)。也知道啰喉(Rahu)，计都(Ketu)就是所谓的九曜星宿(9 Planets)。我知道人们可以用这九曜星宿来计算出自己的命运，我试过，真的非常准！可是我也是刚刚发现其实古代命理师根据九颗星宿及九曜行年，在每九年之内依次更替，并将其命运和九曜星联系作为另一种推算命理方法，能推测到一个人的命运走势。是福是祸，旺衰贫富，皆在九曜星宿运转之中，这种神秘的星宿其实也是一种占星术，早在夏商朝代便已存在，比印度的占星术更早。以星宿论命可谓奇准，运用九个星宿来占算本身的前途和财与人丁的盛弱，可见古人智慧不逊今人。

其实在九个星宿，并非每个星都属凶，也有克星。一旦吉星高照，那一年必行好运，做事顺利，经商如猪笼入水，大发特发，任职者则升职加薪，甚至家有喜事，添丁发财。

所谓九曜星即是：金曜星，木曜星，水曜星，火曜星，土曜星，日曜星，月曜星，啰喉星与计都星，最后那两颗星宿皆属噩星，即是若犯了罗喉星或计都星。那一年将是噩运接踵而来，投资失利，健康欠佳，在职者可能被炒鱿鱼。

所以就有庙宇相信如果本命符合在九颗星宿中的其中一颗，点了所谓的九曜星灯，就可以保护合家平安大吉外，更可转运发财，包括正财与横财，非常灵验和神奇

Rahu Amulet

Recently someone from London ask me for an amulet/statue of Rahu, sorry for the delay as I've checked thru my place and I realised that I've ran out of them, in fact I don't usually rent them except the few I've got from the temple, but I've given out three to someone who needs them.

I felt bad because I knew he really needs one as he is feeling very down lately and had been having dreams of Rahu. Fate brought him to me but I'm not able to help him and suddenly I heard a voice telling me to check the locker of my office! YES! I've got one mini statue there!Phew! I was like "WOW, RAHU heard my prayers'!

Galbraith, if you are reading my blog, this is to tell you Rahu will be there for you. I'll be sending them out by tomorrow hopefully you will receive HIM soon and I hope you will treasure the statue. Please note that I'm not any dealer, this statue is given to you FOC, no string attached. The day if you think you do not needs HIM, please write to me and I'll provide you my address to send back to me.

**Note: For those who needs any Rahu amulet/statue, I'm sorry to say that this is the last Rahu statue I had, so I won't be able to give to anyone, anymore. Should you need, maybe you can go to Wat Srisathong, Thailand to rent it.

Kindly do it before 22/12/2009. Most temple will require you to bring along 5 oranges an a bottle of prayer oil, but i'm sure they too will have prepared the item, so just go to the temple and tell them you are there for " Xie Tai Sui".

It's the day for Rahu, A day for celebration. In Georgetown Penang, devotees celebrate Rahu's birthday on 5th December. As many as 3000 people from different parts of Malaysia & Singapore went there for the celebration. Year of Pig: Phra That Doi Tung Stupa, Chiang Rai

Phra That Doi Tung stupa is situated on top of a high hill, where some hill tribes live.

It is believed that the stupa was built in the reign of King Achuttarat of Yonok Nakphan to house the Buddha’s relics (left collarbones), as previously predicted by the Buddha himself. Before the building of the stupa, the King ordered a Tung (Lanna- styled flag) with the length of 2,000 meters to be made.

The Tung was placed on top of the hill and the King would build the stupa where the Tung was blown to. He bought lands from the people there with gold, and ordered 500 families to take care of the Buddha’s relics. Later on in the reign of King Mangrai, a monk, Phra Maha Wachira Phothithera, offered 50 pieces of the Buddha’s relics to the King. As a result, King Mangrai built another stupa near the old stupa to house these relics.
Some legends relate that the name Doi Tung derived from when Phra Maha Kassapa (a disciple of the Buddha) placed a Tung with the length of 14,000 meters on top of the hill. The Phra That Doi Tung stupa has been restored many times. The last time was in 1970 by which the original shape of the stupa was changed. The stupa is a place of worship for the Lanna people, Tai Yai people, as well as people from Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Every full moon night of the third lunar month there’s a ceremony to worship the stupa.

By Car -From Bangkok use highway no. 1 to Wang Noi district, Ayutthaya and then no.32 to Nakhon Sawan. After that, turn right to highway no. 117 to Phitsanulok and then take highway no. 11 to Phrae. Use highway no. 101 to Rong Kwang district and turn left to highway no. 103, which will meet highway no. 1 at Ngao district, Phayao, and go straight to Chiang Rai. The distance from Bangkok is 804 km. Once in Chiang Rai, use highway no. 1 to Mae Sai district through Mae Chan district. Once you reach the 870th km. turn left to highway no. 1149 which goes up to Doi Tung (17 km.).

Saying Goodbye can be so difficult!

I didn't expect myself to be so emotional when i send a friend off back to india, Never did I expect it's so hard to say Goodbye. I remembered 6 years ago, when he first arrived in Singapore, I was there, buying him lots of veggie and food stuff which I'm not too sure if he likes and now 6 years later I'm there to say goodbye to him.

Sampath, Thanks for everything and all the effort during the time when you are serving Rahu and I believe even if you are faraway from Rahu, you will still be as devoted and Always remember, Rahu will be there to guide and bless you, Always!

Year of Dog: Wat Ket Ka Ram Temple, Chiang Mai

For those born in the year of Dog, their place of worship is the Phra Ket Keo Chulamani stupa in the Tavatimsa Heaven, where the Buddha’s relics (his teeth) are kept by God Indra. These relics were once stolen by a Brahmin during the time the Buddha’s relics were divided and given to different Kings, but they were retrieved by God Indra. Since men can’t go to the Phra Ket Keo Chulamani stupa, they can worship the stupa at Wat Ket Ka Ram temple, whose name has the same meaning as the first. This temple is located on the bank of the Ping River in an international commercial area.

It is believed that the temple was built by a King, Phaya Sam Fang Kaen, in 1428, but the stupa collapsed in 1578. King Sutho built a new stupa in the Ceylonese-Lanna style. The temple also has a big hall built in the Rattanakosin period and a folk museum (opening time 08.00-16.00 hrs).

Year of Chicken, Phra That Hariphunchai Stupa, Lamphun

Phra That Hariphunchai stupa has been with the city of Lamphun since the ancient time.

Legend has it that once the Buddha visited the land of the Meng. There, the King of Naga (mythical serpent) and the King of crow, came to wait on him. A man offered the Buddha a myrobalan fruit, and the Buddha predicted that there was going to be a city called “Hariphunchaiburi” there.

At that place there would be “Phra Suwan Chedi” (meaning a golden stupa) housing many different parts of the Buddha’s relics. The two kings asked for the Buddha’s hair strand and put it in a wooden tube inside a crystal container. It was kept in the cave the Buddha once resided. In 877, a palace was built on top of that cave. King Athittayarat of Hariphunchai wanted to use a bathroom inside the palace but there were crows preventing him from doing so. It was known later that the Buddha’s relics were kept there so the palace was abolished and the relics taken out from the cave to be worshipped. The King built a golden stupa to house the relics. The stupa had constantly been restored by the Kings of Lanna. The last restoration was done in the reign of King Tilokkarat of Chiang Mai about 500 years ago.

In the temple grounds, there are also Phra Suwan Chedi, one of the first stupas in Hariphunchai art style; Chiang Yan Chedi, an ancient stupa with five tiers; and a bell tower, for instance. On the 13th night of the waxing moon of the 6th lunar month every year, the relics bathing ceremony is conducted. Water used during this ceremony is to be taken only from a holy water well on top of a hill outside the city.

Year of Monkey: Phra That Phanom Stupa, Nakhon Phanom

Phra That Phanom stupa, the religious heart of the Thais and Laotians along the Khong River, houses part of the Buddha’s relics (his chest bones), which his disciple, Phra Maha Kassapa Thera, kept on top of the Phu Kamphra hill.

Legend has it that the stupa was built jointly by five kings and that the decoration on the stupa was done by God Indra. The brick plates depicting ancient kings made by local artists can de dated back to the Dvaravati period (around 8th –10th Century AD). It is one of the oldest stupas in Northeast Thailand.

Phra That Phanom stupa had been restored and taken under royal patronage by successive Kings of the Lan Xang Kingdom. In 1680-1682, a monk, Phra Khru Pon Samet, brought 3,000 men from Vientiane, Laos, to restore and heighten the stupa to the form favored by the people of the Northeast. In 1940, the Government restored and heightened the stupa one more time. On 11 August 1975, the stupa collapsed due to heavy rainstorm, but it was once again restored to completion in 1979. There is a well inside the temple, which is one of the seventh wells around the country, whose water has been used during coronation ceremonies of King Rama VI, VII, VIII, and the present King. The annual Phra That Phanom stupa celebration is from the 10th night of the waxing moon until the 1st night of the waning moon of the 3rd lunar month.

By Car -From Bangkok take highway No. 1 to Saraburi. Change to highway no. 2 at the 107th km. Go to Khon Kaen through Nakhon Ratchasima. Turn to highway no. 213 passing through Kalasin to Sakon Nakhon. Then, take highway no. 22 to Nakhon Phanom. The distance from Bangkok is about 760 km. Once in Nakhon Phanom, drive along highway no. 212 for another 50 km.

Year of Goat: Phra That Doi Suthep Stupa, Chiang Mai

Phra That Doi Suthep stupa is situated on top of the Doi Suthep hill.

In 1373, King Kue Na of Lanna invited a monk from Sukhothai to Chiang Mai. The monk, Phra Sumon Thera, brought with him a piece of the Buddha’s relics found at the city of Pang Cha. This relic performed a miracle by multiplying into two pieces. One relic was kept at the Wat Buppharam temple. King Kue Na placed another relic on a holy elephant and asked the elephant to find a place to house the relic. The elephant walked up to the top of the Doi Suthep hill; cried three times; walked in circle three times and fell dead there. As a result, the King built a stupa to house the relic there.
In 1538, King Phra Mueang Ket Klao restored and enlarged the stupa to its present-day state. It is believed that worshipping the stupa from all four cardinal directions will improve a person’s intelligence. In the past, on Visakhabucha day, people will make a pilgrimage to the stupa.

Year of Horse: Swedagon Pagoda, Myanmar and Wat Phra Borommathat Stupa, Tak

Those who were born in the year of horse can pay homage to the Phra Borommathat stupa in Tak instead of the Swedagon pagoda in Myanmar. Phra Khru Phitak, a chief monk at the Wat Phra Borommathat temple, built a stupa replicating the Swedagon pagoda over the original Phra Borommathat stupa.

It is believed that when the Buddha visited Tak, he arrived at the Mahiyangka hill where he gave his hair strand to his disciples. He asked them to keep his hair strand at that place after he entered nirvana. This temple is the place where the Buddha’s hair strand has been enshrined. On the 14th night of the waxing moon and the full moon night of the 7th lunar month every year, there is a celebration to pay homage to the Buddha’s relics.

By Car-From Bangkok, drive along highway 32 to Nakhon Sawan and then highway no.1 to Tak. The distance from Bangkok is about 425 km. From Tak, take highway no. 1107 along the west bank of the Ping River for about 35 km. and turn left to highway no. 1175. Go straight on for another 1 km. before reaching the temple.

Year of Snake: Bodhi three at Wat Photharam Mahawihan Temple, Chiang Mai

Bodhi tree is important to Buddhists because the Buddha attained enlightenment under such tree.

Lanna people still believe that Bodhi is sacred and can eliminate suffering. There is a tradition to offer props to Bodhi trees for support, along with other things.

For those born in the year of snake, their place of worship is the Bodhi tree at Buddhagaya in India. If that is not possible, they can also worship Bodhi trees in any temples. The Wat Photharam Mahawihan temple is a significant temple where the 8th world semimar on the revision of the Tripitaka took place.

King Tilokkarat who built the temple brought Bodhi trees from Sri Lanka to be planted there, and the Great Seven Places where the Buddha resided before the propagation of his teaching were demonstrated there.
The temple’s principal stupa was a replica of the Buddhagaya Chedi. The outer facade of the stupa’s base is decorated with beautiful stuccoed designs.

Year of Dragon: Phra Phuttha Si Hing, Wat Phra Sing Temple, Chaing Mai

Phra Phuttha Si Hing is one of the most significant Buddha images of Chiang Mai.

It is believed to have originated around 2nd Century AD in present day Sri Lanka and had been transferred from one city to another until finally reached Chiang Mai in 1440 in the reign of Phaya Saen Mueang. At first the image was meant to be housed in a temple called Wat Buppharam, but when its carriage passed Wat Phra Sing temple (known as Wat Lee Chiang Phra then), the carriage could not be moved further.

As a result, the Buddha image has been housed in this temple since. In 1520, a King of Lanna, Phra Mueang Keo, built a temple hall called “Wihan Lai Kham” to house the image. This temple hall contains mural paintings depicting a folk tale, done by Lanna artists, and a story from the past lives of the Buddha, done by artists from Central Thailand, from the period of King Rama V.

During the Songkran festival of every year, Phra Phuttha Si Hing is taken in a procession around the city so that people can join the bathing ceremony.

Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng is a sacred place of worship, situated on a mound on the eastern side of the Nan River, at the former centre of the Nan town after moving from Pua town.

Wat Phra Borommathat Chae Haeng was constructed during the rule of Chao Phraya Kanmueang (the Feudal Lord of Nan during 1326 – 1359) as an enshrining venue of 7 Buddha relics, silver and golden votive tablets presented by King Maha Thammaracha Lithai on the occasion that Chao Phraya Kanmueang assisted in the construction of Wat Luang Aphai (Wat Pa Mamuang in Sukhothai Province at present) in 1354.

It features a chedi in a bell shape. The pattern of Phrathat Chae Haeng is assumed to have been influenced by the chedi of Phrathat Hariphunchai. It is plated with Thong Changko or Thong Dok Buap – a combination of brass and copper. The staircase up to the Phrathat is in a Naga shape, while the gable above the entrance gate to the wihan is the stucco relief depicting intertwined Nagas, the unique characteristic of Nan fine art.

Phra Borommathat Chae Haeng represents the Year of the Rabbit.

Lanna people believe that travelling to pay respect to the Phrathat of their Year of Birth or “Chu That” would reap them great results.
Tourists can visit the temple everyday from 6.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.

Year of Tiger: Phra That Cho Hae Stupa, Phrae

Phra That Cho Hae is located on top of a small hill. Judging from its architectural style, the temple can be dated back to the 14th Century.

However, it is believed that when the Buddha reached a hill called Kosithaya Chakkhabanphot, he met a Laotian prince named Lua Ai Khon. The prince offered food to the Buddha. The Buddha then predicted that there was going to be a city called Phrae there. Then, the Buddha’s disciples asked the Buddha for his hair strand, and gave it to the prince to be housed in a crystal container. The container was kept in a cave east of the hill. The Buddha stated that after his nirvana the relics of his left elbow would be kept there.

The name of the stupa was believed to have originated from the silk cloth (Cho Phrae in Thai) the prince used to accept the hair strand. Some also believed that the name was originated from silk cloths wrapped around the stupa. A big celebration of the Buddha’s relics is held annually on the 11th night of the waxing moon to the full moon night of the 4th lunar month. This important festival consists of the Tung (Lanna-styled flags) procession as well as other performances.

Death and the impermanence of life
In the teaching of the Buddha, all of us will pass away eventually as a part in the natural process of birth, old-age and death and that we should always keep in mind the impermanence of life. The life that we all cherish and wish to hold on.
To Buddhism, however, death is not the end of life, it is merely the end of the body we inhabit in this life, but our spirit will still remain and seek out through the need of attachment, attachment to a new body and new life. Where they will be born is a result of the past and the accumulation of positive and negative action, and the resultant karma (cause and effect) is a result of ones past actions.
This would lead to the person to be reborn in one of 6 realms which are; heaven, human beings, Asura, hungry ghost, animal and hell. Realms, according to the severity of ones karmic actions, Buddhists believe however, none of these places are permanent and one does not remain in any place indefinitely. So we can say that in Buddhism, life does not end, merely goes on in other forms that are the result of accumulated karma. Buddhism is a belief that emphasizes the impermanence of lives, including all those beyond the present life. With this in mind we should not fear death as it will lead to rebirth.
The fear of death stemmed from the fear of cease to be existent and losing ones identity and foothold in the world. We see our death coming long before its arrival, we notice impermanence in the changes we see around us and to us in the arrival of aging and the suffering due to losing our youth. Once we were strong and beautiful and as we age, as we approach our final moments of life we realize how fleeting such a comfortable place actually was.
Grieving
It is natural to grieve the loss of family members and others we knew, as we adjust to living without their presence and missing them as part of our lives. The death of a loved one, or even someone we were not close to, is terribly painful event, as time goes on and the people we know pass away along the journey of life, we are reminded of our own inevitable ends in waiting and everything is a blip of transience and impermanent.
At a certain moment, the world seems suddenly so empty and the sense of desperation appears to be eternity. The greater the element of grief and personal loss one tends to feel sorry for oneself.
Some of us may have heard the story of the women who came to the Buddha in great anguish, carrying her dead child pleading him to bring the child back to life. The Buddha said Bring to me a mustard seed from any household where no-one had ever died and I will fulfill your wish. The woman's attempt to search for such seed from houses were in vain and of course she could not find any household in which no-one had ever died and suddenly she realized the universality of death.

Phra That Lampang Luang temple is an ancient temple of Lampang province.

Legend has it that when the Buddha reached the Samphagariwan village, a man called Khon offered him honey and coconuts. The Buddha predicted that there would be a city called Lampang there, then he gave a strand of his hair to Khon, which was later kept in the Lampang Luang stupa. After the Buddha entered nirvana, some Buddhist monks brought part of his relics to be kept there. The stupa is situated in an ancient city, which is believed to have served solely religious purposes.

There are many attractions in the temple such as the Wihan Phra Phut, a beautifully decorated traditional Lanna style wooden temple hall, where people, when looking through a small hole on the Wihan’s wall, can see an impression of the stupa on a piece of cloth placed inside the hall. Wihan Nam Taem contains ancient Lanna mural paintings. Wihan Luang houses Phra Chao Lan Thong, a significant Buddha image of the temple, as well as mural paintings from the reign of King Rama V depicting the Buddha’s life and his past lives. The hall of the Buddha’s Footprint (Ho Phra Phutthabat) is another place where the stupa’s impression can be seen, but women are not allowed to enter this hall. Ho Keo houses Phra Keo, the most important Buddha image of Lampang, which was taken from the Phra Keo Don Tao Suchadaram temple.

Year of Rat: Phra That Si Chom Thong Stupa, Chiang Mai

This stupa is located on top of the Chom Thong hill. It houses part of the Buddha’s relics. The relics are not buried, but instead kept in a small pagoda inside the temple hall, so people can bathe them.

Legend has it that the Buddha once visited this hill and stated that this place would later house part of his relics. In 1452, Two people, Meng and Soi, found the Buddha’s relics, so they built a pagoda to house them at the Ton Thong hill. This temple was later known as the Chom Thong temple. Phra Mueng Keo, the 14th King of the Mang Rai dynasty (1495-1525) enlarged the temple, and many Kings of Chiang Mai arranged for processions of the relics to Chiang Mai to be worshipped. On the full moon nights of the third and seventh lunar months of every year, the relics are brought to the temple hall where people can bathe them. Traditionally, the water used during the ceremony are to be taken from a river and scented with sandalwood.

南海观音

最近朋友的神坛(海洞坛~南海观音)有一些庆祝活动在进行,好象是观音诞,所以一连3天的庆祝活动, 我们也就友情帮忙了起来. 挺有意思的, 看见了一些道教的仪式和佛教是很不一样的, 看见他们大家一起合作,完成任务,互相帮忙,很佩服他们的凝聚力. 当然也要感谢那些出钱赞助"神袍"的人们.

基于好奇,就找了一些有关南海观音方面的资料.

南海观音-三面观音的释义

三面观音为一体的三尊造型佛像:

正面观音手持经箧
右面观音手持莲花
左面观音手持念珠

依次象征智慧、平安、仁慈.每一尊法相蕴含一种大智能及感应功能、能增福添慧、保佑平安。正面的手持经箧观音，体现观音的般若德即智慧德性。经箧代表六百卷般若经，表示观音"白度度人，智悲双运"，既能自利、观理事无碍之境而了达自在，又有利他，观一切众生之机而化度自在，以般若启众生智慧。左面的手持念珠观音，体现观音的解脱德，即彻底摆脱无明烦恼和种种束缚，达到大自由大自在的境界，表现"众生念佛，佛念众生"同等同体的慈精神。右面的手持莲花观音，体现观音的法身德。观音是密宋莲花部的本尊，莲花是观音的三味耶形，喻"常乐我净"四德；是佛门中的圣花，象征众生的肉团心，莲体清净，出淤泥而不染，根茎通心，象征"心佛众生，三无差别"。总体表示观音的清净和六根圆通。观音圣像总体表示观音"大慈与一切众生乐，大悲拨一切众生苦"的大慈大悲形象。是"慈悲"、"智慧"与"和平"的精神象征。

Robes offering @ Wat Kancanarama

Thot Kathin — At the time of the Buddha, this observance was a part of Buddhist practice and sustenence. As an exercise of self-reliance and humility, monks would cut, sew, and dye the cloth that would be used for their robes. (Some monks in the forest still dye their own cloth by cutting wood chips from the trunk of a Jackfruit tree, boiling them, and then stirring in the cloth to dye it an orange/yellow color.) The finished robes were then offered to the members of the monkhood who were worthy and needy. Currently, people tend to purchase manufactured robes, pre-packaged goods (including necessities like toiletries, towels, and so on), and then offer them to the temples. The events surrounding Kathin may involve intensive fund raising for various purposes, such as adding to or finishing a temple building. The time of Kathin can last up to a month from end of the Rains Retreat to the full moon of the twelfth lunar month (November).

Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai told a meeting yesterday of 100 officials from hospitals and health agencies about results from a random survey last year on the health of 80,945 monks in all regions (out of 300,000 Buddhist monks and novices around the country).While 44 per cent of the monks were healthy, some 56 per cent, or 45,333 monks were found to be unhealthy, he said.About 31 per cent of those deemed unhealthy, or 24,937 monks, were sick, mostly from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and emphysema.Another 25 per cent, or 20,396 monks, were said to be at risk of falling ill, mostly from coronary heart disease and diabetes, he said.Witthaya affirmed that sick monks and novices could get medical treatment from state hospitals freeofcharge via the universal healthcare system.Bangkok also had the Priests Hospital, the world's only hospital specifically for monks and novices.He said the health of monks, and other groups, would be well taken care of, due to plans to have 9,000 tambonlevel hospitals promoting good health and the training of 970,000 officials and volunteers by the year 2012.Priests Hospital director Waraporn Phumsawat said 70 per cent of admissions last year were sick monks and novices from upcountry. Most suffered chronic diseases that needed constant medication, or their illness could cause them to die or become disabled.She said yesterday's meeting aimed to set up a system to safely transfer chronically ill monks between the Priests Hospital and hospitals in Bangkok and upcountry so they could get medication and rehabilitation near their temples.

Buddhism in Thailand

The Thais are a deeply religious people. For the Buddhist majority it underlies all activities and is the backbone of the thai culture. 90% of the populations are Theravada Buddhist. Buddhist believes that existence called nibbana (nirvana).

Almost all Thais believe in reincarnation, hence they “make merit” by doing good deeds. Ways to make merit include giving money to beggars, bird releasing, becoming a novice in a temple for man in Thailand and giving food to monk who make their Alms round every morning.

There are 2 sects of Buddhist monks in Thailand, the orange robed Mahanikai and the stricter, more academic red-brown robed Thammayut who can only eat one meal a day (before noon), provided for them by those who wish to make merit. They are not allow to touch money.

Thais always requested service of monks for special occasion ie. New house, new car are blessed for good luck. For marriage, nine monks are invited to perform ritual and during a funeral, a group of monks are required to perform a 3days of chanting mantras.

There is no such thing as a good Buddhist or a bad Buddhist. Buddhism not only teaches tolerance, it practices it. It does not claim that other religions are false, it encourage you to make your own judgments ( not easy as human being always believe the more god/Buddha they follow, the better ‘protection” they have, so they choose to mixed different religion into one, which is ridiculous and disrespectful for the religions he believed )

There is no hard sell, and no requirement for monks to ‘Save’ a quota of souls. And either will it talk about using money can make you a different or better person.

In Thailand we call temple wats, a place exclusively Buddhist, as we know Buddhism originated from India, hence it natural that we can find Hindu God in a wat, but if a wat over-do it by allowing people to leave religious object to the wat , then a temple will be cluttered with religious bric-a-brac and it will become to much. It will lose its original meaning of a Wat.

僧人尸体不腐挑战科学定律

最近在泰国南部仁廊府挽暖区樾挽暖佛寺发生一起奇特事件，该寺一位九十岁的高僧圆寂后被火化时尸体、袈裟不能被焚燬，令人称奇。此奇特现象经媒体披露后，再次引起各界对僧人身体出现的超自然现象的关注。
在东西方的历史记载中，高僧或是有修为的高德之士，出现肉身不腐的不乏其人，很多见诸报端。甚至有人历经许多年，依然颜状如生，有些甚至肉体还飘着澹澹的香气。按照科学定律，人的心跳一旦停止，体内细胞将因缺氧而在数分钟后死亡，所以，人体通常在死后数天开始腐烂。有分析指出，尸体不腐、甚至袈裟都不能被烧燬的现象对现代科学定律构成挑战。

泰南高僧火化尸体袈裟不毁据《联合早报》报导，在泰国南部仁廊府挽暖区樾挽暖佛寺，高僧銮菩銮他嘛哇罗于今年十月十七日圆寂，享年九十岁，其火化仪式在十一月八日进行。在举行火化仪式的当天，天上连续下滂沱大雨，而到下午四点的时候，庙方将进行佛教诵经仪式时，大雨即时停下。佛教诵经仪式结束后，一部份虔诚信徒留下参加火化礼。火化礼在当晚九时进行，收尸老叟拿着装满汽油的加仑桶，把汽油淋在棺木上，然后点燃汽油，并开动风扇催促火力。大约在三十分钟过后，棺木及弔唁花等物被烈火化为灰烬，可是高僧的尸体却安然无恙、袈裟丝毫未受损，在场的众僧人啧啧称奇。众亲信及委员们立即下令终止火化，将高僧尸体换了一套新袈裟及另装入一副新棺木置放于大卧佛的佛堂内。

The Erawan Shrine (San Phra Prom - ศาลพระพรหม) located by the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. Phra Prom (Brahma) statue was enshrined at this location on November 9, 1956. The special ceremony is held on November 9 every year at this shrine, some people call this day as Phra Prom’s birthday

On this coming 9 November, monks will be at the venue at about 6am for some cermony and to give blessing to devotees.

Burmese Buddhist Temple 缅佛寺

This Burmese Temple is just oppsite the thai temple. It's doing some upgrading like building a pagoda and some renovation works around.

Ths is like a wishing well??? We try to throw the coins into container which was labelled "Health","luck","Money", "career", "Education"" Blissful Marriage". Seems easy, but not all of us managed to throw it in. (After rounds & rounds of coins, decided to give up and proceed to the main hall for Monk's blessing then i realized there's similiar container inside the hall, all u need to do is place your donation in any one of them, easy job!)
This temple looks much more "grand" then the Thai Temple, you may like to drop by when you go to Penang.

According to legend, Luang Pho Sothon floated down the Bang Pakong River to the site of the temple(temple is situated on the west bank of the Bang Pakong River, 2 Kms. south of the city hall). Efforts to retrieve it were unsuccessful until a villager had a small shrine erected on the site and performed a ceremony welcoming the image to the community.

About 20 kilometers from Lampang is the old temple of Wat Phra That Lampang Luang.
On first glance, this walled citadel sited on a man-made mound of earth has a very fortress-like look to it. That's because the temple was built on the site of an eighth century fortification, called a wiang, that guarded the routes to Lampang.
The temple buildings seen today were built in the fifteenth century, and one of the reasons for the temple's popularity is the relatively pure state of all the temple buildings. Unlike most of the temples in Chiang Mai, Wat Phra That Lampang Luang hasn't been 'improved' to conform to modern Thai ideas about temples.
The courtyard is still filled with sand, and the huge main wiharn (prayer hall) is still open on all sides.To enter the temple, you must pass a pair of guardian lions and climb the naga stairway up to the massive main gate. The main prayer hall, the Wiharn Luang, stands close inside the main entrance. The wiharn is open on all four sides, forming a huge covered hall. Sturdy columns support the roof.
The columns are finished in black lacquer and stenciled with gold leaf designs.At the back of the Wiharn Luang sits a massive gilded ku, a sort of Laotian prang sheltering the main Buddha image. The Buddha image is the Phra Chao Lang Thong, cast in 1563. On either side of the Ku are throne-like pulpits, sometimes used by monks but more often used to house other Buddha images on important ceremonial days. Behind the main prayer hall stands the 45 meter tall chedi. The chedi was faced with copper and bronze sheets, which over the centuries have oxidized into a variety of green and blue shades. The chedi has somehow escaped the gilding which is now universally applied to chedis, even if they weren't originally built that way.
Flanking the chedi on the south side is another prayer hall, the Wiharn Phra Phut, a small chapel built in 1802 with a beautifully carved fascade. Behind the Wiharn Phar Phut is a tiny tower-like structure, the Ho Phra Phuttabat. It houses a Buddha footprint sculpture. The building is generally only open on important festival dates, and may never be entered by women.Wat Phra That Lampang Luang was one of the Nine top Thai spots named by The Bangkok Post's online travel campaign.

都因此信服他的能力，并对他非常敬仰。此外，在帕必达之前的一世中，他常常用鲜花供养佛陀及许多的高僧。接著帕必达转世在另一世之後，则生为一户养牛人家的孩子。早晨的时候，他常常看到高僧沿街托钵化缘後，会在一个空地修行打坐。由於他看到高僧总在烈日下修行，想到这必然非常辛苦，因此趁高僧不在时，为高僧搭起简单的棚子，让高僧在打坐时可以遮阳避雨，他也因此累积很大的福德。因此在临命终时，得升天道；但他在生为天人後，
并未耽溺於天道的逸乐，反而常常广行佛事，不断地累积福德资粮。此後，帕必达的法像就被制作为如今所看到的样子，象徵祂用手将六根遮住，即眼、耳、鼻、舌、身、意皆被遮止；以免受到这六根所对应到的六尘所扰，此六尘则为外界的色、声、香、味、触、法，让人能谨记佛陀的教诲。

因此佛子佩带必达佛牌的时候，无论是在修行佛法或是行事思考之时，都能够让心念更加全心专注，提升自己的思考层面；此外，在世俗上，
帕必达的法像亦被一般大众认为是挡灾避险的姿势，让人可以免於危难

Buddha With Sunglass

There is a small shrine in Maha Chai province Thailand, it is about 2 hours drive from Bangkok. The shrine is just next to a very busy fishing port where seamen load and unload their catch daily. There is a story why this particular Buddha is wearing sunglasses.

Luangpor Poo above is one special Buddha in Wat Krok Krak at Samutsakorn Province. The statue of Luangpor Poo actually floated along the large river bank nearby and a shrine was later enacted especally for him. Maha Chai used to be just a small fishing port but has now become a major and important place where business takes place. A man once went to Luangpor Poo and seeked for helped hoping that his life and business would improve. His wish was granted not too long and this faithful devotee actually went back to do thanks giving. He did what any normal devotee would by giving traditional offerings, before he left the temple he was asking himself what else has he not given to Luangpor Poo alas he found that he has a sunglass with him and he put it on the Buddha.I am not sure if this one here is true but someone actually removed the sunglasses from the buddha because he thought that it was disrespectful. Some people said that he became blinded after doing that and he went to replace the glasses back.

Luangpor Poo is also known to grant his devotees wishes qucikly and swiftly so if you want your wish to come true go pay Luangpor Poo a visit.

Paying Homage to the Lord Buddha's Left Footprint

Wat Phra Phuttha Bat Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan,Phra Phuttha Bat District, Saraburi Province

This is a Thai Buddhist belief, Lord Buddha's "Left Footprint" was probably discovered in the reign of King Song Tham. The stairways, which were constructed in the era of King Rama I consist of three paths, each of which is decorated with a Naga figure. Each path starts with a five headed naga named "Muchalin." From left to right, the 3 paths are supposed to represent silver, crystal and gold. People believe that a wish for money and gold will be granted if they climb silver and gold stairs respectively, and prestige and other endowments if they ascend the crystal stairs.

Wat Phraputthabat Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan is located in Tambon Khun Khlon, 28 kilometres north of the town, turn left and travel for one km before arriving in Phra Phutthabat district. The historical Lord Buddha's Footprint was found on a stone panel near Suwan Banpot Hill or Satchaphanthakhiri Hill.

Lord Buddha's Footprint measures 21 inches wide, 5 feet long, and 11 inches deep. The footprint was discovered during the reign of King Songtham of Ayutthaya. The footprint had 108 religious aspects, so he commanded a temporary Mondop be built to cover the footprint and it has been refurbished several times. The Mondop is a square building, has a seven-tier castle roof and each tier is covered with green glazed tiles. Each level is decorated with an arch supported by wood, gold and coloured glasses. The external walls are also decorated with gold and coloured glasses in the shapes of mythological gods and lotus top. The pearl inlaid artwork on the Mondop doors represent some of the best craftsmanship in the country. A five-headed Naga, cast in bronze, flanks the stairs. The Mondop is surrounded by bells, which visitors can ring to make merit. The surrounding Ubosot and Vihara were built according to the architectural styles of the Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin periods.

In the temple compound there is the Phra Phutthabat National Museum which displays various precious artifacts including King Songthams attire, ceramics, bronzeware, old weapons, a replica of Lord Buddha's footprint, an old Mondop top, Phat Yot (ecclesiastical fans) from various periods, and a pipe dating from the King Narai period.The Phra Phutthabat Festival is held twice a year, during the eighth day of the waxing moon until the first day of the waning moon in the third month and the fourth month of the lunar calendar.

Bo Phran Lang Nuea is a small stone well near the temple. At the mouth of the well are knee prints, there are stone slopes and a deep hole the size of a milk can near the well. The water that flows from the hole is believed to be holy water. According to legend, Bun, a hunter who found Lord Buddha's Footprint, washed game meat at this well, while kneeling down a small hole was made by his spear which pierced the ground. There is a continuous flow of water from the well.

Paying homage to Lord Buddha’s Footprint is a Buddhist festival that has been celebrated since the Ayutthaya period and is held between February and March. During the festival the temple opens daily from 6.00-19.00 hr. Buddhists come from around the world especially Chinese Buddhists who like to visit during the Chinese new year.
